EOS-4.5 SPEC — MACK’S LARGEST DISPLACEMENT DIESEL
The Mack MP10 requires EOS-4.5 approved oil. CK-4 equivalent, parallel to Volvo VDS-4.5. Primary grade: 15W-40. The MP10 is Mack’s largest engine, used in heavy haul and high-torque vocational applications — same family as the Volvo D16. AMSOIL Heavy-Duty 15W-40 (ADP) carries EOS-4.5 approval.

MP10 ENGINE OIL SPEC
- The MP10 is Mack’s equivalent to the Volvo D16 — both share Volvo Group platform architecture and the same 16.1L displacement.
- OEM specification is EOS-4.5 (Engine Oil Standard), which runs in parallel to Volvo’s VDS-4.5 — same performance tier, different OEM branding.
- Applications: heavy haul, tanker, and high-GCW vocational applications. This is not a standard linehaul engine — it’s spec’d for operations where the MP8 doesn’t have enough torque.
- FA-4 oils are NOT approved. Do not use FA-4 in the MP10.
- Extended drain intervals are supported with EOS-4.5 approved synthetic oil. Use oil analysis if running extended drains.
- AMSOIL ADP explicitly carries EOS-4.5 approval — the primary recommendation for this engine.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What oil does the Mack MP10 take?
EOS-4.5 approved oil. CK-4 15W-40. FA-4 not approved. AMSOIL ADP carries explicit EOS-4.5 approval.
Is the Mack MP10 the same as the Volvo D16?
Same displacement (16.1L), same Volvo Group architecture. The MP10 carries Mack branding and tuning; the D16 carries Volvo. Oil specs run in parallel — EOS-4.5 for Mack, VDS-4.5 for Volvo. An EOS-4.5 approved oil meets both requirements.
What applications use the MP10?
Heavy haul, tanker, and high-GCW applications where maximum torque is needed. Not a standard highway engine — used where the MP8 isn’t enough. Think permit loads, heavy tanker routes, and specialty vocational work.
